Podcast: Percy Grainger’s music for wind band

The Australian born composer and pianist Percy Grainger (1882–1961) maintained a lifelong affection for the wind band as a performance medium for his works. “As a vehicle of deeply emotional expression,” he once said, “it seems to me unrivalled.” Grainger’s initial commitment to the ensemble was hands-on: during a stay in London in 1901 he would regularly purchase a new wind instrument and teach himself how to play it. Two years as a bandsman in the American army a decade later cemented that affinity. Raymond Bisha introduces a new recording of Grainger’s music for wind band that showcases both his exceptional ability as an arranger and orchestrator and outstanding performances by the Royal Norwegian Navy Band, conducted by Bjarte Engeset.

  1. Please submit information as to where the cd’s of the month and all other recordings of NAXOS can be obtained. I find it very difficult to locate their purchase venue.

    1. Hello, Mr Deane

Purchasing links can be found on an album’s individual page on naxos.com. We’re aware, however, that for new releases the list of links sometimes takes a while to reach completion – and we’re working to fix that situation.

That apart, the links under the ‘Buy Online’ and ‘Country’ buttons at the top of the naxos.com homepage may be of further help. Also, this link to our distribution partners: https://www.naxos.com/distributors.asp

I hope this information will be of assistance.

Best wishes from all at Naxos.
