The music of this American composer came to my notice as a young musician playing first chair in the woodwinds section of a community orchestra. It was 1982 and close to Christmas. The liveliness of his ‘A Christmas Festival’, the mixture- cannon- at the end of the piece was a revelation to me and I fell in love with this wonderful composer! Since then, as a collector of old piano music, I’ve come across ‘The Waltzing Cat’, ‘Bugler’s Holiday’ and a few others that have enchanted and delighted my music student parents and audiences. As mentioned in the podcasts, Mr. Anderson’s creativity shines in every delightful ‘flight of fancy’. In 2011, while shopping for CDs, I came across Vol 4 of his orchestral works and have since ripped the ‘tunes’ to my computers. And I do remember ‘playing’ the typewriter for his piece, many years ago and the podcaster is quite right – it isn’t easy!!! I hope to hear more of this wonderful man’s music soon. Bless you Naxos for bringing this composer’s music back for us ‘old parlor wiggets’.
